VOLAN BATTERY

ABOUT BATTERY

FULFILL SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

Ca-Ca maintenance-free flooded batteries can be stored for 6 months and hybrid batteries for 3 months without losing their charge. Batteries will be damaged if stored in a discharged state. All batteries should be stored in a cool and dry place, and if flooded batteries are to be stored flat and on top of each other, a separator (e.g. styrofoam) should be placed between them. Battery tops must be clean.

The need for recharging in Ca-Ca flooded accumulators with calcium:

  • Every 6 months if the average storage temperature is below 27 degrees (*)
  • Every 3 months if the average storage temperature is above 27 degrees (*)
  • A recharge is also required when the open circuit voltage of the battery drops to 12.4 volts. This method is an alternative to (1) and (2).
  • In hybrid water-charged accumulators, these times are about 1/2 of the time.

CAUTION: When charging, do not allow acid overflow and do not allow the temperature to rise above 52 degrees Celsius. If the temperature rises, reduce the charging current or stop charging until the battery cools down. High charging temperature will damage the battery.

FULFILL SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

When checking a battery, always check for the following conditions before testing:

  • Displaced, loose or broken poles
  • Cracked or broken box or lid
  • Dislodged, broken or blocked plug, blocked gas outlet openings
  • If the battery is not damaged, continue with the next step.

Measuring the Charge Level :

Measure the open circuit voltage with a precision voltameter.

NOTE: Never measure the state of charge of a battery that has just been removed from charging in the vehicle or outdoors. In this case there is a surface charge with a misleading high voltage. To remove the surface charge, discharge the battery with 15x 15 A or, in the vehicle, by keeping the high beam headlights on for 15 seconds.

If the charging status is :

En azından %75 (yaklaşık voltaj=12.4 *V) şarj var ise yükleme testine geçin %75’ten daha düşük şarj varsa akümülatörü yükleme testinden önce verilen yönteme göre şarj edin. Voltaj ve yoğunluklar akümülatörün tasarımına göre değişik değerlerde olabilirler.

Installation Test :

The battery test under load and the evaluation of the results depend on the system of the devices used. The load test and result evaluation are performed according to the device instructions.

FULFILL SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

Charging time in batteries with an openable lid depends on the electrolyte density of 1.280 g/cm3 in all cells between 20°-35°C. When this value is reached, charging stops. After resting for half an hour, the electrolyte level in the battery is set to the maximum line, wiped clean and installed in the vehicle. The discharged batteries that are waiting for aqueous charging or coming from the customer are charged according to their charge levels at the currents and times given in the following charts. However, used batteries may not reach the desired density. In these batteries, if the corrected density in the last two hours of charging has not changed, the charge is considered sufficient. Charging is applied according to the voltage values in fully closed accumulators that are not opened.

  • Make sure the charger is not switched on.
  • Determine the charge level in the battery.
  • Connect the battery to the charger. Positive cap to positive, negative cap to negative. Be careful not to reverse the polarity connection.
  • Select the desired current and voltage values on the charger according to the specifications and instructions for use and connect it to the charger.
  • After charging, first turn off the charger before disconnecting the leads.
  • Measure open circuit voltage and eye densities to determine if additional charging is required.

Open Circuit Voltage = 11.70V -12.40V

Open Circuit Voltage =< 11.70V

Battery Capacity (Ah) Charging A. Charging Time

  • You can charge multiple batteries in parallel at the same time and with the same capacity.
  • Discharged batteries freeze to a lower degree in cold weather (-5 degrees -10 degrees)
  • Do not attempt to charge a frozen battery; make sure it is at room temperature before charging.
  • Overcharging shortens the life of the battery.

Select the right battery for the desired vehicle from the lists in our catalog of accumulator specifications. Dimensions, cold cranking current and capacity values are the most important selection criteria. Dilute the dry batteries according to the method given above and charge them if necessary.

For water-charged standby batteries, if the open circuit voltage is 12.50 Volts and below when the average daily temperature is less than 4C, recharge according to the above method.

If the ambient temperature is high, when the open circuit voltage drops to 12.40 volts and below, recharge according to the method given.

Before removing the old battery, mark the cables +/- to ensure correct connection to the new battery.

Measure the battery voltage and orientation to ensure correctness, carefully check and clean the cable connections and battery tray. Insert the new battery and install and tighten the connections.

Connect the positive (+) wire first. Then connect the negative (-) ground wire. Tighten carefully. Be especially careful when side-tightening the battery terminals, as over-tightening will damage the terminals.

Coat the terminals and cable ends with corrosion protection.

A battery is a device that stores electrical energy as chemical energy and gives it as electrical energy when needed.

The role of the battery is primarily to supply electric current to the starter motor so that it can start at the first moment, to send current to the receivers to be used when the vehicle engine is not running, and to balance the voltage and amperage in the electrical system when the engine is running, thus preventing damage to the receivers as the voltage generated by the alternator at high speeds can sometimes rise too high. In this case, the battery takes some of the current generated by the alternator and prevents the excessive voltage from rising. The 12 V battery used in gasoline engines consists of six 2-volt cells connected in series with each other. Within each element group, there are positively and negatively charged plates connected in parallel. The positive plates contain lead dioxide as the active substance. The negative plates contain pure lead as the active material. Separators are placed between the plates to isolate them to prevent short circuits. The separators are made of materials with very small pores so as not to interfere with the chemical reaction between the plates. Electrolyte, a mixture of sulfuric acid and pure water, is placed inside the battery. The elements are connected in series with lead bridges.

Batteries are divided into types according to the type of metal used, such as lead acid, nickel cadmium, nickel, iron.

The most widely used battery type today is lead-acid batteries. These batteries are basically divided into dry and wet batteries.

The most commonly used types of flooded batteries are the classic type of car batteries, which we also call starter or SLI (the English initials for starting, lighting and ignition functions). Auto batteries are also divided into two types: fully closed or with open spark plugs. The internal structure of these two types of batteries is the same. In other words, both are classic type lead acid batteries. The difference of the closed batteries is that the bushings cannot be opened. Since water cannot be added to these batteries, it is more suitable to be installed in vehicles with good voltage regulators.

In addition, stationary (stationary plant) and traction (forklift) batteries are also included in the scope of flooded products, although their internal structure and usage areas are different.

The internal structures and technologies of dry, VRLA batteries are different. The Turkish equivalent of VRLA definition means valve regulated lead acid battery. These batteries are also divided into two according to their internal structure.

AGM (electrolyte impregnated in separators) and gel VRLA batteries. The main feature of these batteries is that there is no acid overflow or leakage. Gas output is minimal. They are therefore very safe and have a much longer shelf life. They are also more resistant to vibration than flooded batteries. Their shipment and transportation is trouble-free. Areas of use include fixed installations, UPSs, boats and power plants.

Apart from physical measurements, there are capacity and starting power values in battery selection. Capacity means the total power of the battery and cranking power means instantaneous power. For example, if 50 ampere hours and 420 amperes are written on the label, these numbers mean that the battery has a capacity of 50 ampere hours and a cranking power of 420 amperes. 420 amps is the maximum instantaneous current and 50 amps is the total power per hour.

Another important issue in battery selection is the selection of the battery with the appropriate capacity and starting power for the vehicle. If we choose a battery with a value lower than the capacity and starting power value of the battery in the vehicle, for example, if 60 ampere hours are selected instead of 72 ampere hours, there may be no problems in the short term, but in the medium term, there will be problems in starting the vehicle because 60 ampere hours will be lower than the starting power of 72 ampere hours, if we choose a battery with a higher value than the capacity and starting power value of the battery in the vehicle, the electrical system of the vehicle, that is, the charging voltage values must be measured. As a result of this measurement, if the capacity of the alternator is not enough to supply the battery and the system, the battery will never be charged at the level it needs, this will negatively affect the battery performance and life.

The definition of UPS is an abbreviation of the initials of the English equivalent of uninterruptible power supply.

The UPS battery is the battery of these uninterruptible power supplies. The batteries of uninterruptible power supplies are activated when there is a power outage and continue to be energy storage until the power is restored. As mentioned above, these batteries are VRLA type batteries called dry and have a minimum gas output.

  • Make sure that the battery you use for jump-starting is of the same amperage.
  • Turn off the engine and anything else that is likely to consume electricity.
  • First connect the red end of the cable to the (+) terminal of the discharged battery, then connect the other end to the terminal of the charged battery.
  • Then connect the black end of the cable to the (-) terminal of the charged battery and the other end of the cable to any metal part of the body of the discharged battery vehicle.
  • Make sure that the cables do not touch any moving or hot spots such as exhausts, propellers, etc.
  • Start the full battery vehicle and then start the empty battery vehicle.
  • After the vehicles are running, starting from the empty battery vehicle; you can remove the cables.

Possible causes of discharge of the VOLAN BATTERY battery you purchased:

  • Adverse environmental and storage conditions, high temperature, humidity, etc.
  • Leakage currents in the vehicle (high currents drawn from prescribed short circuits) open lamps
  • Short circuits in other electrical appliances and equipment
  • Battery incompatibility with the vehicle, small battery selection, additional equipment in the vehicle (sound, light, computer systems, cooling systems)
  • Insufficient charging of the alternator (charging dynamo)

Yes, batteries can freeze.

The freezing temperature of a fully charged battery is between -50°C and -70°C, so a charged battery will not freeze under normal conditions. However, discharged batteries can freeze even around 0°C to -10°C depending on the discharge level. Especially in cold seasons, care should be taken to keep the batteries charged.

Effects of weather conditions on the battery:

1. In terms of storage

Stockpiling should be done indoors. Dust and precipitation increase spontaneous discharges in open air stockpiles. It should be stored in a dry and cool place as much as possible. Discharge rates of batteries increase or decrease in parallel with temperature. In general, for every 10 degree increase, the loss spontaneously doubles. Therefore, storage in the range of 10-16 degrees is much healthier than storage in the range of 25-30 degrees.

2. When working on the vehicle:

In hot weather, the starting power of the battery increases, but in parallel, corrosion (wear and tear) in the battery also increases. Therefore, batteries used in hot climates have a shorter life. In cold weather, the starting power of the batteries decreases. In addition, the cranking value of the vehicle engine increases. As a result, the starting power of batteries becomes important in cold conditions. In very cold weather, there is a risk of the liquid (electrolyte) inside the battery freezing. While a fully charged battery will only freeze at -70 degrees Celsius, a discharged battery can freeze even at -5 degrees Celsius, depending on the discharge level. It is therefore very important to keep the battery charged in cold weather.

Are Batteries Harmful to the Environment? Accumulators consist of lead, sulfuric acid solution and polyprolene canister. Therefore, batteries are hazardous wastes that are risky for the environment when they become unusable. However, with an effective recycling system, the polyprolene canister and lead parts of the batteries can be recovered one hundred percent. Sulfuric acid can also be recovered, but is usually preferably neutralized.

There is effective waste battery recycling in our country, please deliver the old battery to the dealers when you buy your new battery. Please see Waste Battery Management ( http://www.akuder.org.tr )

STORAGE

FULFILL SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

Ca-Ca maintenance-free flooded batteries can be stored for 12 months without losing their charge. Batteries will be damaged if stored in a discharged condition. All batteries should be stored in a cool and dry place, and if flooded batteries are to be stored flat and on top of each other, a separator (e.g. styrofoam) should be placed between them. Battery tops must be clean.

The principle of First In, First Out should be applied.

CAUTION: When charging, do not allow acid overflow and do not allow the temperature to rise above 52 degrees Celsius. If the temperature rises, reduce the charging current or stop charging until the battery cools down. High charging temperature will damage the battery.

TEST PROCESSES

FULFILL SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

When checking a battery, always check for the following conditions before testing:

  • Displaced, loose or broken poles
  • Cracked or broken box or lid
  • Dislodged, broken or blocked plug, blocked gas outlet openings
  • If the battery is not damaged, continue with the next step.

Measuring the Charge Level:

  • Measure the open-circuit voltage with a precision voltameter.

If the state of charge:

En azından %75 (yaklaşık voltaj=12.4 *V) şarj var ise yükleme testine geçin %75’ten daha düşük şarj varsa akümülatörü yükleme testinden önce verilen yönteme göre şarj edin. Voltaj ve yoğunluklar akümülatörün tasarımına göre değişik değerlerde olabilirler.

Loading Test:

  • The battery test under load and the evaluation of the results depend on the system of the devices used. The load test and result evaluation are performed according to the device instructions.

Vehicle Electrical Equipment Control:

  • Refer to the vehicle's battery-related electrical equipment when installing a new battery or when a faulty battery has arrived. The most common fault that can occur in the vehicle is overcharging or undercharging. Measure if the alternator output voltage is between 13.8 - 14.4 V for hybrid batteries with a normal battery and at full throttle, for Ca-Ca batteries a voltage output between 13.8 - 14.8 V is suitable (on a 12V vehicle)

NOTE: In vehicles where electronic circuits and coding are amnesiac when the battery is disconnected, avoid interruption of the system by activating a second battery or special device before disconnecting the battery.

Batteries, terminals, terminals and related parts contain lead, lead compounds and some other chemicals. In order to avoid serious health problems, hands should always be washed with soap and water at the end of any work related to the battery.

Always wear eye protection, a mask and gloves when working on and around the battery.

Hydrogen gas produced in batteries is highly flammable. Charging areas must be well ventilated.

All objects and factors that may cause ignition such as sparks, flames, burning cigarettes, welding, friction and static electricity discharge should be kept away from the batteries. Otherwise the gas may catch fire and explode. In addition, in order to prevent sparks that may occur during maintenance, the grounded cable connection must be disconnected first and the grounded cable connection must be connected last.

When removing a battery from a vehicle, the (-) negative terminal must be removed first, and when installing the battery in the vehicle, the (+) positive terminal must be connected first.

Do not connect or disconnect circuits directly during charging. Chargers and testers should always be switched off first when connecting or disconnecting cable headers to avoid sparking.

Flooded batteries should not be tilted more than 45 degrees to any side. Batteries contain sulfuric acid which can cause serious burns. If contact with acid occurs, wash the contact area with plenty of soap and water. If acid gets into the eyes, medical attention should be sought immediately after washing.

  • Do not lean over the battery when charging, testing or making battery-to-battery connections.
  • Allow the frozen battery to warm up to 15 degrees Celsius before charging.
  • Do not install in the vehicle until you see that the battery voltage is in the correct direction.
  • Keep batteries and electrolyte away from children.

Considerations for correct use:

  • The surface of the battery must be kept clean and dry.
  • Make sure that there is no loosening or oxidation at the battery connection points.
  • If the type of battery is appropriate, the battery water should be checked and “pure water” should be added if there is a decrease. Absolutely no acid should be added.
  • If the battery is to be stored for long periods of time without use, it must be fully charged.
  • Always read and follow the instructions.
